Enter the Blu Zone™ . For business or pleasure, connect to the best Wi-Fi network in Puerto Rico
BluZone™ s are public or semi-public venues where AT&T makes access to the Internet available via wireless technology commonly known as Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is an international standard for wireless Local Area Networks operating at up to 11 Mbps within a range of 100-1000 feet. Wi-Fi has now become the most popular worldwide standard for setting up wireless local area networks in offices, homes and public spaces.
AT&T provides service per specifications in a Service Level Agreement, fast response time, partnership with industry leaders (CISCO and others), complete management and maintenance of the infrastructure, technical support and roaming arrangements with national partners.
Features and Components
The infrastructure required to support a Wi-Fi hotspot is highly cost-effective, and consists of one or several Access Points (depending on the physical lay-out of the venue) and a server. Local access to the AT&T IP-node may be via fiber, copper or wireless local loop.
Benefits
AT&T’s Wi-Fi hotspots were primarily conceived with partnerships with multiple venue owners in mind. Through a low capital investment and recurring charges to provide free-of-charge Internet access, venue owners were able to attract large volumes of traffic to their establishments. This resulted generally in significantly increased revenues from the owners’ primary products and/or services.
BluZones™ now also provide roaming capabilities to hundreds of thousands of subscribers of Virtual Network Operator, iPass.
How Does It Work?
AT&T assists venue owners in the technical planning of the Wi-Fi network. Once deployed, the network allows users of lap-top computers and Internet-capable handheld devices to gain direct access to the Internet. The service is currently not billed to the user.
